<image:title>Who Am I? Old - Just a guy with lots of hobbies.</image:title>
<image:caption>Let’s be clear: I’m not a professional woodworker. To use an analogy… Ben : Woodworking Your Kids First Season of Kid-Pitch Baseball : MLB What I am is a guy with a lot of annoyingly complex hobbies. I’ve been woodworking for about two years in my friend’s shop, and I’ve recently built out my own shop. I love woodworking because it is, so far as I can tell, an act of patience. It takes wood curing and epoxy drying and sanding and finishing. And patience is not my strong suit. I think it’s the same reason I like meat smoking, homebrewing, and writing: it’s hard work, it results in something tangible, and it gives me a chance to practice something I’m not all that good at. I built this site to sell some work and to sell myself (I’m changing careers!), so take a look around. And please, please, don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions. I love talking about what I love.</image:caption>

<image:title>Custom Work - Long Elm</image:title>
<image:caption>This piece of Siberian Elm is ideal for a larger scale piece. It’s think, straight, and without any flourishes. It’s ideal to make into a bench, a series of end tables, or a longer single table. This piece has been reserved. Contact me if you’d like to commission something like this.</image:caption>

<image:title>Custom Work - Red Sequoia</image:title>
<image:caption>This rectangular piece of Sequoia has deep red tones that this photo doesn’t do justice. Sequoia is a softer wood, so this will need an epoxy coating when it’s finished. It would make an awesome coffee table or a couple of larger serving boards/end tables.</image:caption>

<image:title>Custom Work - Honey Locust</image:title>
<image:caption>I have two pieces of near-bark cuts of some funky honey locust. It doesn’t show it, but this honey locust has some beautiful red-ish, almost pink, hues. The wood is a bit too all over the place to make this into a single piece, but if you like pieces with all sorts of nooks and crannies, this is the piece for you.</image:caption>

<image:title>Custom Work - Giant Olive</image:title>
<image:caption>This monster of a piece of Olive wood would make a couple of great coffee/side tables. If you’re looking for a bigger, ‘wow’ piece, I’d suggest this. If you’d like a smaller board out of this, also let me know. If enough folks want smaller (i.e. <14inch) boards, I’ll cut it up.</image:caption>

<image:title>Who Am I? - My name is Ben Brasch, and the founder/owner/unpaid intern of Giddy Up Woodcraft.</image:title>
<image:caption>I started Giddy Up in June 2020 with the goal of creating wood pieces that thread the needle between beauty function. I specialize in creating serving and cutting boards, coffee and dining tables, and wall art. I chose the name “Giddy Up” for two reasons: (1) It’s an affirmation, and (2) it evokes the West. In other words, I strive for my art to bring people together, to invite people in, and I see a lot of western motifs—from live-edge landscapes to western symbolism—in the wood I work with and the projects I take on. As I continue to grow as a woodworker, I look forward to trying new techniques and taking on wild commissions. So, if you’ve found your way here, take a look around and see if something catches your eye. Then, reach out. I love to talk to folks about my work, and I’d be happy to help add something beautiful to your home.</image:caption>

<image:title>Other Things I Do - Friends</image:title>
<image:caption>No prerogative here. I just have a lot of great friends. They are smart, hilarious, and for the most part, kind. In the Beforetimes, we’d get together often. Now, we play D&D and have an ongoing Survivor fantasy league. So, i guess, I take that back. I do have a perogative. Email me if you want to talk about Survivor. I’ve watched an ungodly amount of Survivor in the past six months. And: call your friends. They’d love to hear from you.</image:caption>

<image:title>Other Things I Do - Woodworker, Baker, Candlestick-Maker.</image:title>
<image:caption>Okay, the last one’s not true. Or at least, not yet. I could make candlesticks on the lathe. Before starting Giddy Up Woodcraft, I was a camp counselor, a teacher, and an assistant principal here in Denver. Now, I split my time between woodworking, tutoring, and being a good friend, brother, and son. You can learn more below, and if you/someone you know needs tutoring, wants to learn how to run a D&D game, or is looking for advice about creating a fun, somewhat-successful dating profile, I’m your guy.</image:caption>

<image:title>Recent Work - Snake River Board - Selecting Wood.</image:title>
<image:caption>All wood projects begin with smart wood selection. Most woodworkers are looking for uniform slabs—pieces with no major curves or knots. Working with epoxy, I prefer wood with all sorts of nooks and crannies. The Snake River board began just this way. It was a very bark-heavy end of an elm tree that when I planed down, had all sorts of lumps and bumps.</image:caption>

<image:title>Recent Work - Snake River Board - Pouring Epoxy.</image:title>
<image:caption>Filling all those nooks and crannies is a schloppy process. It begins by making a mold for your wood so when poured, the epoxy doesn’t leak. It ends with a sticky mess, as I try to fill every small hole. (Also pictured here is the top of my foot as a reminder that this whole process is anything but professional).</image:caption>

<image:title>Recent Work - Siberian Elm Series</image:title>
<image:caption>In this series, I wanted to push the burden of creativity onto customers, so I planed them all down and posted them as unpoured pieces. Then I consulted everyone who bought one about shape, color, and engraving. Take a look below to see how these pieces turned out. They were tons of fun to make, and I got a lot of texts from happy dads for their Father’s Day presents. If you want a custom piece like this, contact me! I’d be happy to make a cheeseboard, a coffee table, an end table, and much more. The world is your oyster!</image:caption>
